There is a series of planned OPEN Hearings.
The Independent Inquiry relating to Afghanistan will hold 3 weeks of OPEN hearings in October and November. They will cover investigations carried out by the Royal Military Police (Operation Northmoor) to determine whether they were properly and effectively conducted.
Week 1: Monday 12th October – Wednesday 14th October 2026 and Friday 16th October 2026
Week 2: Monday 26th October – Friday 30th October 2026
Week 3: Monday 9th November – Wednesday 11th November 2026

The Inquiry begins each day at 10:00
A provisional date has been set for a further hearing on Friday 16th October 2026 (AM) for an update from the MOD on progress following the hearing on Friday 25th September 2026.
All media must comply with the Inquiry’s Restriction Order for each phase of hearings or the Chair’s provisional Restriction Order. Any information that is removed from the time-delayed feed and/or redacted in the transcript of proceedings must not be repeated, disclosed or duplicated to any third party.
The Chair has granted anonymity to a number of witnesses. The Chair’s Restriction Order prohibits publication or dissemination the identities of any of the witnesses, or any information which might lead to their identification.
